As If There Weren't Enough Reasons To Dump Reid

Via Politico:
'Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had an unusual form of praise for New York's junior senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, this morning at the fundraiser Mayor Bloomberg hosted for him at his townhouse - referring to her as "the hottest member" as she sat just a few feet away, according to three sources. ... First Bloomberg spoke, then Sen. Chuck Schumer, and then Reid, according to the sources. Reid praised Schumer at length, discussing how he could have run for governor - and won - in 2006, but didn't, and instead accepted the Nevada senator's entreaties to run the DSCC. Then he turned his attention to Gillibrand, saying something about how "many senators are known for many things," according to a source. He added, "We in the Senate refer to Sen. Gillibrand as the hottest member."'
The Washington Post has this comment from the Reid campaign:
'Reid spokesman Jim Manley told Politico, "What can I say, she made The Hilll's 'Most Beautiful' list. Of course he also went on to praise her skill and tenacity and described her as an effective member of the New York delegation as well."'
Well that just makes it all better doesn't it?  Don't you just love Reid (he of the 'light-skinned negro' sans 'negro dialect' comments)?  He's a peach.  Apparently, Gillibrand will have to do without a public apology, because she's beautiful, and sexism just isn't as bad to Reid.  Of course, Hispanics haven't received an apology from him either.

Reid's campaign against Angle is rated as a toss-up right now - hopefully, he'll be tossed out in the process.

Seventy Years Later - Honoring the WASPs

They paid for their own pilot licenses, and when they died in the line of duty, for the transport of each other's bodies for burial. The Air Force refused to acknowledge or honor them properly, and forced them from their training positions, rather than let men with junior positions and fewer in-flight hours lose a position. They flew cargo, fighter planes, test planes, and moving gunnery targets. These women were the Women Airforce Service Pilots, and they were finally honored for their service today. Last year, the president signed into law a bill allowing the Congressional Gold Medal to be awarded to the surviving WASPs and the families of those who have died. Today, the women were on Capitol Hill to receive the awards. The WASPs were among the women who paved the way for all other women who have served in the military.

Thank you ladies - for courage, service and patience.

Isn't This a Nice Thing for the Kingdom our President Bowed To?

According to Reuters:

RIYADH Reuters) - A Saudi man has divorced his wife by text message, a newspaper said Thursday.

The man was in Iraq when he sent the SMS informing her she was no longer his spouse. He followed up with a telephone call to two of his relatives, the daily Arab News reported.

Saudi Arabia practices a strict form of Islamic Sharia law, and clerics preside over Sharia courts as judges. Under the law a man can divorce his wife by saying "I divorce you" three times.

I forget, why should we show obsequious respect to a leader who tolerates this in his country? Politeness would be one thing, but what happened to 'women's rights are human rights?' Human rights under these systems seemed to be reduced to showing Sharia respect, rather than the rights of people. That bow, disguised as a two-handed shake (in which one hand did not participate - see the link on the word respect), is really starting to grate on my nerves.
