As If There Weren't Enough Reasons To Dump Reid

'Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had an unusual form of praise for New York's junior senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, this morning at the fundraiser Mayor Bloomberg hosted for him at his townhouse - referring to her as "the hottest member" as she sat just a few feet away, according to three sources. ... First Bloomberg spoke, then Sen. Chuck Schumer, and then Reid, according to the sources. Reid praised Schumer at length, discussing how he could have run for governor - and won - in 2006, but didn't, and instead accepted the Nevada senator's entreaties to run the DSCC. Then he turned his attention to Gillibrand, saying something about how "many senators are known for many things," according to a source. He added, "We in the Senate refer to Sen. Gillibrand as the hottest member."'

 The Washington Post has this comment from the Reid campaign:

'Reid spokesman Jim Manley told Politico, "What can I say, she made The Hilll's 'Most Beautiful' list. Of course he also went on to praise her skill and tenacity and described her as an effective member of the New York delegation as well."'

Well that just makes it all better doesn't it?  Don't you just love Reid (he of the 'light-skinned negro' sans 'negro dialect' comments)?  He's a peach.  Apparently, Gillibrand will have to do without a public apology, because she's beautiful, and sexism just isn't as bad to Reid.  Of course, Hispanics haven't received an apology from him either.

Reid's campaign against Angle is rated as a toss-up right now - hopefully, he'll be tossed out in the process.

Post-Afghan Speech Job-Approval Polling

President Obama's polling numbers, following the speech on revisions to the Afghanistan policy, have continued on a downward trend. RCP noted that the Gallup poll had an unusual drop of four points overnight.

'Obama suffered a net four point loss of support overnight - a noticeably sharp decline for a tracking poll that usually doesn't move more than a point or two in either direction on any given day.'

These polling changes are largely meaningless to the Presidency at this point in time, and similar results only forced President Clinton to re-tool his agenda, pushing him closer to the center than he might otherwise have been. To many in Congress, however, these numbers have got to be troubling. Harry Reid continues to sound increasingly desperate, while his own poll numbers have taken a long, slow dive. Generic Congressional polls place Republicans within 0.4 points of Democrats, while 58.2% (as an average of multiple polls) state that the country is headed in the wrong direction. In general, these are not the numbers to make the Democratic Party happy, and may signal a trend back toward the center.

Only $75 billion to go!

Fox News is reporting that the 'stimulus' plan has now ballooned to $925 billion, and that Senator Reid is trying to get a vote through today or tomorrow. Good luck with that one, Senator, given that the White House is off-message and mired in Limbaugh land, that support for the bill declines with every $1-million tacked on, and that there's dispute among the Democrats themselves. $1-trillion, here we come.

Stimulus plan redux

2:00 PM tomorrow is the start of the Senate debate on the 'stimulus' plan.

Side note: if you haven't already done so, write or call your Senators and demand that the pork be stripped from this bill before it can go forward.

The Boston Globe is practically slavering at President Obama's feet as he tries to win over GOP support for the bill, saying that he's 'bending over backwards,' in his attempts to 'ease concerns.' Do you think you could be a little less obvious?

Senator Reid is doing a fantastic job of bringing the doubters by allowing even more pork to be loaded onto the bill.

Senator Mitch McConnell is promising to at least delay passage of the bill until GOP concerns are taken into account.

It looks to be an interesting day tomorrow.
